Our Mission
To offer hope through a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ to all individuals so that each can
experience love, acceptance and restoration
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our Strategy
To reach into the community to lead people to Jesus
Christ, disciple or
teach them basic Christian truths,
support them through their own spiritual journey, help them deepen
their commitment to Christ, allow them to get involved in ministries of
the church and reach out to others around them.
We accomplish these tasks through
the ministries of prayer, service, outreach, friendship, teaching and
by honoring God through our worship.
What We Believe
The Bible is the inspired
and inerrant Word of God. It contains all the
necessary truth to lead men and women into salvation and life to its
fullest.
God, of infinite
power, wisdom, goodness and righteousness, eternally
exists in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
These three are identical in their
qualities and attributes.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was conceived by the power of the Holy
Spirit and born of the virgin, Mary. Jesus
was both fully God and fully man. The
purpose for Him coming to earth as a man was to restore our
relationship to God, which is broken by sin. He
was crucified, buried and rose after three days to His divine place,
once again, to intercede for the body of
believers to God.
The Holy Spirit
is the Divine Person who convicts the world
of sin, brings new life to those who are spiritually dead and
places all believers into God's church, which is the Body of Christ. It is He who lives within us,
giving us the power to live a holy life and guiding us into all truth.
Man was created in
the image and likeness of God in innocence and without
sin, but because Adam sinned the race "fell", inherited a sinful nature, and became
alienated from God. Man, in himself, is
not capable of remedying his sinful condition.
Salvation is
the gift of God's grace, freely given to all who put their faith
in Jesus Christ as being the sacrifice for their sin.
All who so trust Christ
as their Savior are forgiven of their sins and "born" into the family
of God by the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.
Sanctification is
the point in life when a believer renounces the desire
to live for self and
desires to live totally for the glory of God. The
believer is then empowered by the Holy Spirit, making him or her able
to live a life of holiness. This does not mean perfection of the believer,
but purity of heart, soul and mind.
Gifts of the Spirit are spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit to all believers
for the purpose of building up the Body of Christ (the Church) and bringing glory
to God. The gifts are to be used in love
and emphasize the need for unity.
Ordinances are specific
commands that Jesus gave that were carried out "for all time"
until His return.
There are three ordinances: the
Baptism, Lord's supper and Footwashing.
Baptism is an outward act
symbolizing salvation and a cleansing of sin.
At First Church we baptize by
immersion in water.
The Lord's Supper is received in
remembrance of Jesus’ death for our sins.
The bread represents His body and the wine His
blood.
Footwashing is an act of
obedience, servanthood and humility.
The Second Coming of Jesus is a personal return of Christ to receive
His believers into Heaven and to inherit eternal life.
Those that have not accepted Jesus as their
personal Savior will be judged with perfect justice and doomed
to an everlasting punishment.
The time of His return is unknown to
humans, but it may occur at any time. This
is the glorious hope of all God's
children.
